CRITIC REVIEW:

“THE ROSE OF PERSIA was supposed to mark a new long-term collaboration between Sir Arthur Sullivan and dramatist Basil Hood after Sullivan's falling out with William S. Gilbert. Sullivan's death in 1900 meant that this beautiful and elegant work would stand as the only testament to this new partnership. This late (1899), non-Gilbertian operetta has an oriental setting and a delicately coloured score. The performance is attractive, especially with the addition of six overtures, all given period-instrument style by the Hanover Band.”
