CRITIC REVIEW:

“The Grillers gave the première of Rubbra’s Second Quartet of 1950 at the Victoria & Albert Museum in 1952. Their West Hampstead Decca recording dates from the same period and relates a work charged with a very special intensity, the Beethovenian slow movement surely one of the high-points in British post-war chamber music, superbly played by the artists for whom it was written.”
