“Frida Weber’s career expanded considerably between 1928 and 1932, after her marriage to the popular singer Alexander Flessburg (duets with him included in the above compilation). She recorded operetta songs, light music and classical repertoire, but her career was terminated by the Nazis, and ultimately she lost her life to them at Auschwitz, 1943.”
- Peter Sommerregger, Frida-Leider-Gesellschaft
“One might wonder why the Frida-Leider-Gesellschaft would issue an historic CD of a Frida Weber-Flessburg, a relatively unknown singer. Just listening to any of the 24 recordings by this enchanting artist will instantly provide the answer! Her Vilja Lied is among the loveliest we have ever heard, her Flies ‘Lullaby’ offers an enduring quality, and her Lola (from The Blue Angel) surpasses the legendary Marlene Dietrich recording! Christian Zwarg’s transfers are, as usual, miraculous!”
