“The biography of John Sims Reeves who lived from 1818 to 1900 and was described in 1924 as England's greatest singer. Reeves débuted as baritone, Newcastle upon Tyne 1838, then studied in Paris and Milan, singing as a tenor at La Scala 1846 (Edgardo in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR) and London 1846. He first sang in oratorio, Norwich Festival 1848 and thereafter appeared more often on concert-platform than in opera, but sang title-rôle in first performance in English of FAUST.”
