C1310. STÉPHANE DENÈVE Cond. Stuttgart Radio S.O.: Ravel Program. (Germany) Hänssler 93.325, recorded 2013 & 2014. - 4010276026983
“Stéphane Denève's Ravel cycle continues to take shape. In this second installment of the complete orchestral music we hear the ballet version of MA MERE L'OYE, the early Overture to SHEHERAZADE, 'Une barque sur l'ocean', 'Menuet antique' and ' L'eventail de Jeanne: Fanfare'. Once again Denève proves that he possesses all the requisite sensitivity as a conductor, and when matched with an orchestra of this caliber, the results bring out all the magic and kaleidoscopic orchestral color. Denève and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (SWR) are a dream team in this music and show that even after a hundred years, Ravel's scores have not lost their bloom.”
“Stéphane Denève is a French conductor of considerable international experience and reputation. After graduating from the Paris Conservatoire, he served as a conducting assistant to Georg Solti, Georges Prêtre, and Seiji Ozawa. He made his début in the United States conducting Poulenc's DIALOGUES DES CARMÉLITES at the Santa Fe Opera in 1999. Subsequently, he conducted many of the world's leading ensembles, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony, the Munich Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and many others.
Denève has also conducted an impressive repertoire of operas, such as FAUST at La Scala, CARMEN at the Glyndebourne Festival, COSÌ FAN TUTTE at the Royal Opera House, LA BOHÈME at the Opéra National de Paris, LOVE FOR THREE ORANGES at Netherlands Opera, LA TRAVIATA at La Monnaie, BÉATRICE ET BÉNÉDICT at the Teatro Comunale Bologna, and BLUEBEARD'S CASTLE at the Cincinnati Opera. He has also performed in concert with many prominent soloists, including Piotr Anderszewski, Leif Ove Andsnes, Emanuel Ax, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Lars Vogt, Yo-Yo Ma, Hilary Hahn, Vadim Repin, Gil Shaham, Natalie Dessay, and Pinchas Zukerman.
In 2005, Denève became the music director of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, taking it to the London Proms in 2006 and leading it in its début concert in France. In 2011 he became the chief conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Denève has recorded primarily with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra on Naxos and Chandos, concentrating on the music of Roussel, Connesson, and Debussy.”

"Among my most treasured memories of orchestral concerts during the past 55 years was hearing Denève conducting the Montréal Symphony Orchestra several seasons ago. Not since Münch in the early '60s had I heard such delicacy and exquisite transparency in the strings. We thus momentarily depart from our customary concentration on musicians of the past; in Denève we have a French conductor who will become a legend in his own time!"
