It has many strong assets: Deborah Voigt is a very good Leonore, almost in a class with Christa Ludwig in the Klemperer recording and Jessye Norman in the Haitink...Ben Heppner has become the great dramatic tenor of the day; he sings Florestan even better than Jon Vickers...Kurt Rydl is the best of all Roccos...Because both principals are so fine, this RCA set is now my preferred digital recording of FiIDELIO."
