“Kilenyi, born in Philadelphia, was a protégé of Dohnányi and became a respected pedagogue as well as concert pianist. His Chopin and Liszt recordings from 1937-38 include the Etudes Op. 10 and Funeral March Sonata. PEARL 0126 gathers some of Kilenyi's American Columbia Recordings from 1939-48, including Dohnányi and Kilenyi in the former's 'Suite en valse' for two pianos. America’s eventual entry into the Second World War brought a four-year hiatus in Kilenyi’s career, spent mostly in the European theatre of operations, where the pianist who enlisted as a Private at the War’s end as a Captain in US Army Intelligence….In 1945 he became Music Control Officer for Bavaria, his task to supervise the denazification and rebuilding of the area’s cultural life, most particularly its musical life, in the aftermath of the War.”
