"Suzanne Gyr, born 8 June, 1899 in Lorraine, France, started taking piano lessons with one of Cortot's pupils. In 1930 she entered Cortot's class at the Ecole Normale in Paris and studied the piano with him for five years. At the same time she took courses in history of music and harmony with Nadia Boulanger. She gave recitals in France, but WW II intervened. She settled in Geneva and married Edouard Gyr, a Swiss violinist and a member of the Orchestre Romande. She gave recitals in Switzerland, where her brilliant success was acclaimed. She recorded for HMV as soloist, also together with the baritone Marko Rothmüller, all issued only on the HMV Swiss Series. She died 3 March, 1974."

“Each of these disks, from Canadian engineer Yves St Laurent… [feature] St Laurent’s natural transfer – made without filtering, like all his dubbings – it is easy to listen to, despite the surface noise.”

- Tully Potter, CLASSICAL RECORD QUARTERLY, Summer, 2011
