“Leopold Demuth studied with Josef Gänsbacher in Vienna and came to the Hofoper in 1898, remaining there until his sudden death during a concert in 1910. He was highly praised for the beauty and size of his voice and the ease of its production. He was best in the standard Verdi rôles but also sang all the Wagner baritone parts….Erwin Stein wrote ‘vocal splendour had often to make up for his lack of stage personality’.”
